Dog Days at the Beach

I don’t know about you but our dogs are truly family.  They fill our hearts with absolute joy despite their occasional misbehaving.

Our dogs are Sparky and Gracyie.  Sparky is a Lab-mix and Graycie is a ….well who knows.  When we got Graycie, we found her living on a farm with lots of other dogs, cows, chickens and farm animals.  I’m pretty sure she’s not part chicken however, LOL!

When we picked Graycie up, we were told she was a black mouth cur.  Um, we had no clue what she was but she had the most beautiful eyes and her grey and tan color, we had to take her home.  She really is like an old porch dog.

Living in Florida, we try to acclimate our dogs to the beach life.  They naturally like the outdoors but Graycie wasn’t always crazy about the beach.  Sparky however is a different subject.  As we get closer to the ocean he knows because he can smell it in the air!

Smell of Salt Air

As we start to get remotely near the ocean, Sparky starts getting all hyped up with his nose out the window sniffing the air.  Graycie just goes with the flow and relaxes on the sand.

DOG BEACH

Not all beaches are created alike in Florida.  Some areas are a bit more restricted as to whether dogs can be on the beach.  I get it, some folks don’t clean up after their dogs and that’s not cool, but most people do.  Dog people are special…we’re evening willing to clean up after someone else’s dog if we have to just to make sure the beach stays clean and our pooch has a place to visit.

One of our favorite dog beaches is in the area of Hutchinson Island/Jensen Beach, Florida.  The name of the beach is really called Walton Rocks Beach but everyone knows it’s DOG BEACH.  The reason we call it dog beach is because it really is a place to go with your dog and you can bet any day of the week there will be other dogs there.

DOG BEACH is awesome because your dogs really can run free.

RELEASE THE HOUNDS…..That’s what we always say as soon as we get there and remove Sparky’s collar and leash.  Sparky always goes running…I mean you’d think Zombies were chasing him because it’s a mad dash for his life towards the crashing waves and he plows full throttle into the surf!

From dogs leaping in the air to catch a frizzbie or a dog running into the surf to catch a ball, it’s such a fun beach to go with your furry friend!
