Have you ever considered blogging and wondered what it’s all about? I mean, how does someone start a blog anyway? Check out my post on 10Things I Learned as a New Blogger. For my part, my mind is always going. I don’t know why, but I woke up one late night and could not seem to get myself to fall asleep. Maybe it was one of those moments where you think what else is there to life and what can you do to make a little extra money.
During this sleepless night, I started poking around on Pinterest, one of my go-to’s in for inspiration and quick links to things that interest me. I stumbled on It’s a Lovely Life’s blog page and that started me on this journey into blogging. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but blogging goes beyond that. Bloggers each have their own insight and perspective on issues that we sometimes need help in. They provide helpful information and some make a pretty good living while doing what they love.
On my Pinterest page, I have links to lots of sites that helped me in the beginning. It’s hard not to get overwhelmed with all of the information out there but you have to approach it from a reasonable standpoint and think about what your end goal is. Do you want a blog that simply provides a means to share your life’s lessons and experiences or do you want a blog that shares your life’s experiences in a way that becomes helpful to others?
Blogging can be started off as a part-time side hustle but if you really want to make a it a full-time job that replaces your income from your day job, you really do have to work at it. There are ways to monetize your blog so it becomes a means of you making money off of something that you would otherwise possibly be doing, which is writing. You really have to think deeper than that because there is a strategy behind blogging that will help you become successful so you actually are making money and not just spinning your wheels.
I can say from experience, it took me over 14 months to really get my mindset right to get my blog off the ground. I got so hung up in the technical aspect of things and became frustrated trying to get the site up and running. I didn’t have the means to pay someone hundreds of dollars to build my site, plus, I wanted to be hands on. What I mean by that is I wanted my site to have the look and feel I needed it to have and I also needed to have the basic knowledge of how to maintain my site and add posts to it.
I have to say for me, I found such a big help from the folks at Bluehost. While they will build your site a cost to you, they have other options, such as WordPress Live which enables you to have a live person chatting and looking at the same computer screen you are working on while giving you step by step instruction. This was a huge deal to me because it was just what I wanted at the right time. They really helped me every step of the way and the cost of WordPress Live was worth every penny.
